Special lecture by TaCS Member at the University of Leicester, UK

We are proud to share that one of our esteemed TaCS Member, Prof. Dr. Poom Kumam, delivered a distinguished lecture titled “Fixed Point Optimization Algorithms for Image Restoration and Image Processing” at the Ken Edwards Lecture Theatre 1, Ken Edwards Building, University of Leicester, UK (LE1 7RH) on April 16, 2025. The presentation focused on the pivotal role of image restoration in real-world scenarios, particularly in high-stakes fields like drone-based surveillance, where images often suffer from various distortions and noise. Prof. Dr. Poom Kumam elaborated on the application of fixed-point iterative algorithms—including the widely used proximal algorithm—to address optimization problems that arise in the image recovery process, often involving convex or nearly convex objective functions and constraints.

The lecture explored how fixed-point theory serves as a robust mathematical foundation for approximating solutions in image processing tasks. Beyond technical methods, the presentation also highlighted the broader implications of these algorithms in practical settings, shedding light on current challenges and future directions in the field. This contribution not only reinforces TaCS’s ongoing commitment to advancing research excellence but also sparks new opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration in optimization and image analysis worldwide.
